Many sceptics believe that Islam has allotted Muslim women to the silent roles of being a homemaker. However, throughout the centuries, numerous Muslim women sages, in different parts of the Muslim world, have participated and excelled in the spiritual teachings of Islam and become exemplars of the community. They served and supported their communities, and at times, surpassed renowned leaders or scholars in Islamic knowledge, doctrines and practices.
However, the recognition of their contributions and the public awareness of their prominent roles is rather obscured, deserving greater attention and study. In unearthing texts and contexts of the Muslim women sages, this presentation aims to illuminate minds beyond long-held myths and negative stereotype perceptions, taking valuable lessons from the status of exemplary women in Islam in society and their achievements in the field of Islamic Spirituality.
