Quarbani is an Islamic ritual and obligatory for financially strong Muslims, it brings unlimited benefits to the muslim community every year. The importance of animal sacrifice in Islam is huge in all aspects, including spiritual, economic, and communal.
As you need to buy an animal based on your financial capacity, one can question the benefits of Qurbani in Islam. Yes, it has many benefits, including spiritual and communal welfare for individuals and the Muslim community.
The most significant benefit of Qurbani is to seek Allah’s reward. However, it also offers significant advantages within the Muslim community. If you are unaware of all the benefits, let’s discuss the meaning of Qurbani and its benefits, including spiritual, economic, and communal.

What is Qurbani?
What is Qurbani in Islam? Qurbani is an act of slaughtering an animal (Goat, sheep, ram, cow, or camel) on the 10th day of Zulhajj, known as Eid-ul-Azha, the 10th day of Zullhajj. Qurabni can be performed on all three days of Eid-ul-Azha,e.g, 10th, 11th, and 12th.
- Definition and Origin
The word “Qurbani” is derived from the Arabic word Qurban, meaning sacrifice, referring to Eid-ul Adha Qurbani. Its origin goes back to Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.), who was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail (A.S.) after getting this command in his dream. Allah accepted their sincerity and replaced Ismail with a ram, making this act of obedience a symbol of faith and submission in Islam.
- The Story of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) and the Ultimate Sacrifice
Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.), who had no children at the time, prayed to Allah with a sincere heart for a righteous and obedient son. Allah answered his prayer and blessed him with a son named Ismail (A.S.). When Ismail grew older, Allah tested both father and son with the command to sacrifice Ismail, and they both showed full trust and obedience to Him.
- Why It Matters Today
Why do we give Qurbani, and why does it matter? Qurbani matters today as it reminds us that nothing is above Allah’s will and His obedience. If a hardship comes to our lives, we should handle it with great dignity, faith, and Allah’s obedience, and He will never leave us alone. Prophet Ibrahim’s story teaches us that we belong to Allah and He owns our lives and beloved things.

Spiritual Benefits of Qurbani
Qurbani in Islam holds great value as it is a spiritual act that involves sacrificing not just an animal, but also one's wealth, time, and effort for the sake of Allah. Before diving into advanced topics, every student must first grasp the basic Tajweed rules. Here’s what that includes:
Reviving the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.)
Every year, when Muslims perform this ritual, it revives the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and reminds us how important and beneficial it is to have strong faith in Allah.
Strengthening Taqwa and Submission to Allah
Taqwa is fear and love of Allah at the same time. When we do Qurbani, we intentionally and unintentionally develop a feeling of taqwa in us, and taqwa heals us internally.
Gaining Allah’s Pleasure And Forgiveness
When a person purchases an expensive animal out of his tight budget and then slaughters that animal purely for the sake of Allah’s will, he expects to have great rewards from Allah, seeking Allah’s pleasure and forgiveness.
A Personal Act of Worship And Devotion
Qurbani is a worship, and a man only performs worship when he is devoted and wants to submit his ego to Allah’s will. Additionally, the person performing qurbani is fully devoted and in love with Allah (SWT).

Social and Emotional Benefits of Qurbani
Qurbani is not just an Islamic Ritual, but its social and emotional benefits are far greater than we can imagine. Talking about social benefits, when a person spends out of his Halal income to buy an animal, he sacrifices the love of money over God’s will and happiness.
Unity in the Ummah -A Global Act of Worship
Qurbani is performed all around the world on every Eid al-Azha. This global act of worship demonstrates that Muslims are united and follow their religion together, regardless of boundaries, distances, or racial differences.
Cultivating Gratitude and Humility
By performing Qurbani, we are reminded every year that Allah has bestowed upon us numerous blessings that we cannot even count. When we purchase a Qurbani animal out of our wealth, we feel a sense of gratitude and thank Allah SAW for enabling us to do this act of worship.
Supporting the Poor and Vulnerable
When we distribute the meat among the poor, relatives, and the needy, it is a form of support and care that creates a positive and joyful community, which brings emotional strength and joy to the hearts.
Spreading Joy During Eid
Qurbani not only allows you to perform an Islamic ritual, but it also brings joy to every muslim community on the Eid al-Adha celebration. A lot of meat is distributed to the needy and poor people who cannot afford to eat meat throughout the whole year. So Qurbani brings joy to every home on Eid Day.

Economic And Community Impact
During Eid days, muslims buy and sell animals, slaughter services, transportation, and fodder. It improves the economy, circulates the money, and gives equal opportunities for economic growth.
Encouraging Generosity and Redistribution
Spending your hard-earned money on buying an expensive animal is a generous act. A generous muslim gets rewards from Allah because he prioritizes Allah’s will over money. The redistribution of meat fosters equality between the rich and the poor, promoting a culture of generosity and unity.
Supporting Local Farmers and Butchers
The demand for qurbani animals increases, helping local farmers generate substantial income every year. They get a chance to sell their animals at far better prices because every muslim would want to slaughter the best quality animal and is willing to pay good prices, which usually doesn't happen. Job opportunities are created for many others, including transport companies, cattle feed suppliers, and others.
Reducing Hunger And Food Insecurity
For some low-income families, fresh meat is an expensive luxury that they may never experience in their lives. The Sunnah of our beloved Prophet always has some wisdom behind it. Through Qurbani, poor families will receive nutritious food, and Eid-ul-Adha will be a day of Joy for the entire community, bridging the gap between the rich and the poor.

Modern Qurbani: Online, Ethical & Sustainable
Qurbani is performed worldwide in all Muslim and non-Muslim countries. Some states don’t allow the slaughter of animals openly, making Qurbani sort of difficult for such Muslims. Using authentic online platforms helps such Muslims perform the ritual.
How to Donate Qurbani Online Safely?
Many organizations are providing online Qurbani services, and you have to be mindful about choosing the right platform. Read about their Qurbani procedure and ensure that everything is clearly in accordance with Islamic Sharia.
Ensuring Transparency And Halal Standards
Make sure that the company you are choosing for qurbani is transparent in its qurbani procedures and follows all the halal standards according to Quran & Sunnah. The company must provide you with all the details about their Qurbani procedure according to Islamic Shariah and should perform Qurbani during the first three days of Eid-ul-Adha.
Eco-Friendly and Ethical Slaughter Practices
Ensure that the slaughter practice is conducted ethically and in accordance with Islamic principles. The knives must be sharpened properly, and Takbir must be called before slaughter. After Qurbani, animal waste must be disposed of properly. Animal skin must not be sold out. However, it can be given to any charitable organization.

The Wisdom Behind Extra (Prophetic) Qurbani
Our Prophet Mohammed PBUH used to slaughter two animals every year on Eid al-Adha. One on behalf of himself and one on behalf of those members of the Ummah who cannot afford to do so. This is commonly known as Prophetic Qurbani.
Why Some Offer More Than One Animal
Some people offer more than one animal for Qurbani/sacrifice to share in the greater reward and fulfillment. They want to sacrifice either for their deceased loved ones or to distribute more meat among the underprivileged people of the society. Though a single animal is sufficient for one family, they perform multiple Qurbani’s for wider rewards and follow the Prophetic Qurbani.
Rewards of Giving on Behalf of the Ummah or Deceased
You can give an extra Qurbani on behalf of the Muslim Ummah who are alive but cannot afford to give Qurbani, and for those members of the Muslim Ummah who are deceased, so they can get a reward in their afterlife.
When you give Qurbani on behalf of your deceased family member, such as your deceased parents, this qurbani will bring reward to them, bringing ease to their afterlife journey, or Allah knows best how they will benefit from it.

Common Misconceptions and Clarifications
There are some common misconceptions about Qurbani, which are very important to discuss to remove the wrong Islamic practice from our society.
Who Should Give Qurbani?
Qurbani is usually not considered Wajib. Yes, this is correct. Qurbani is not Wajib but a compulsory Sunnah (Sunnat-e-moqaddah). However, its importance is similar to an obligatory act of worship. According to scholars, Qurbani must be given by all members of Muslim society who have the Nisab (an amount of wealth that enables them to afford Qurbani after fulfilling their basic needs), and the person must be an adult and in good mental condition.
Can One Animal Be Shared?
Yes, one animal can be shared only if it’s a big animal like a cow or camel, according to the following Hadith: “Seven people can share in a cow or a camel.” (Muslim)
However, if the animal is small, such as a goat, only one person can perform Qurbani with it.
Is Money Donation Enough Instead of Slaughter?
No, money donation cannot suffice for the importance of slaughtering the animal. Qurbani holds significance and has its benefits, which are greater than just donating money. If performing Qurbani is not feasible in your location, you can use online platforms to perform your Qurbani through recognized organizations, or you can send money to a country where Qurbani is performed for others through the organizations.
Conclusion
Qurbani is a sacred act of worship in which Muslims do not hesitate to slaughter an animal and distribute its meat in three distributions (Friends, family, and needy) for the sake of Allah. It is a Sunnah of Allah’s Prophet Ibrahim (AS), which was then continued by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and now it has been continued in the Muslim Ummah to date.
