Cupping, or Hijamah in Arabic, has been practiced since the ancient times, by many cultures and civilisations. More importantly, it is one of the great sunnahsof the Prophet, Peace and Blessings be upon him, in curing diseases traditionally.
Although modern medicine has gained public attention and recognition due to its extensive research and is backed by much scientific evidence, it is important to take into consideration alternative medicine as they themselves possess certain healing properties that modern medicine don’t.
Hijamahhas been stated in many hadiths, and here are just some of them:
Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: That he paid Al-Muqanna a visit during his illness and said, "I will not leave till he gets cupped, for I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying,
"There is healing in cupping." - Sahih al-Bukhari
Narrated Abu Hurayrah:
He Prophet (ﷺ) said: The best medical treatment you apply is cupping. - Abu Dawud
- Lung disorders (cough, bronchial congestion and asthma)
- Digestive problems
- Mental and emotional distress (anxiety and depression)
- Back pain
- High blood pressure
The list goes on and on! Cupping may look daunting from the pictures you may see online from the medicinal bleeding. Don’t worry! When it comes to traditional and prophetic healing, there are a lot of hidden benefits which are yet to be discovered. Everyone should give cupping a try and see if it does wonders for themselves!
